James Vincent McMorrow Announces New LP Post Tropical to be Released January 14th, Premieres Album Trailer
On January 14, Vagrant will release Post Tropical, the second full-length, studio album by Dublin's James Vincent McMorrow. James will play a special, intimate pre-release show at Joe's Pub on Nov. 21 before embarking on a US tour in 2014, which will take him to some of his biggest venues to date. On January 26, McMorrow will play London's Barbican as part of a European tour. More shows will soon be announced.
Watch the trailer for the new album featuring a clip of the title track, "Post Tropical," and footage from a forthcoming trilogy of music videos by Aoife McArdle below.
On a pecan farm half a mile from the Mexican border, Post Tropical was born - a collection of sounds and ideas brought to life in rooms where the low frequencies of passing freight trains vibrated in the studio, briefly disturbing the birds in the rafters. And like most new ideas, Post Tropical is hard to describe. It requires attention and engagement. It seduces you towards hidden depths.
James Vincent McMorrow’s acclaimed debut album, Early in the Morning, reached number 1 in Ireland, went platinum and picked up a Choice Music Prize nomination upon its release in 2010. Along the way, there were shows everywhere from the Royal Festival Hall to Later...with Jools Holland, and a breakout hit in the charity cover of Steve Winwood’s ‘Higher Love’. McMorrow’s first record was the formative sounds of a songwriter who suddenly found people giving a damn. “I’m so proud of that album, but I never longed to be a guy with a guitar. You play these songs live as best you can, and suddenly you’re a Folk musician. But the texture of this record is completely different. This is the kind of stuff that makes sense to me.”
All of James' forthcoming tour dates can be seen HERE. James will announce further plans for Post Tropical shortly and the album’s first single is set to premiere in the coming weeks.

James Vincent McMorrow's Recent US Shows Receiving Great Reviews
As Dublin-native James Vincent McMorrow wraps up a string of U.S dates opening for Bell XI and The Civil Wars before his solo headlining tour kicks off in September, those who were lucky enough to attend have had some amazing things to say about his performances.
SYFFAL
said of his June 15th show, “McMorrow's voice draws the crowd silent and captivated everyone in the El Rey without a doubt.”
His sets have commanded the attention of audiences on both coasts.
Performer Magazine
called him a “rare breed of singer/songwriter” when they caught him after his show at the Paradise in Boston.
“He is a special talent—one that can evoke such joy, yet flirt with such pain. If soft chords and a haunting wind of a singing voice tend to have a profound effect on you, James Vincent McMorrow is sure to rub you the right way,”
Allston Pudding
said about his Boston show.
About his show at the Bowery Ballroom in New York,
Gigape
remarked, “James has the incredible skill of taking a room of 300-400 occupants and effortlessly causes every body to become silent and still and most noticeably; listen.”
“I love playing opening shows because it’s like nobody knows you, or a lot of people don’t know you, and not a lot of people are going to care about the opening act a lot of the time, so it’s like you’re competing to win people over,” James said in an interview with
Short and Sweet NYC
before his show at the Bowery Ballroom in New York. “Going on a stage with a guitar trying to win them over, it’s a challenge.”
After the show, Short and Sweet NYC
wrote,
“…by the time he left the stage, everyone knew the name of the man behind the music.”

James Vincent McMorrow Announces the Release of His Debut Album- Early In The Morning- in the US
James Vincent McMorrow is pleased to announce the release of his debut full-length, Early In The Morning , which will be made available in the US for the first time this winter. After having self-released the album in Ireland, James and Vagrant Records have come together in an effort to disclose some of the most honest music the genre has seen in years. Self-recorded over five months in a secluded house by the sea, Early In The Morning is 'one of the first truly great albums of the decade' (The Dubliner). Laced with hauntingly gracious melodies, mythical story lines, and musical structures that lend themselves to the traditional folk style that emerged in the states in the 1960's, James' debut is an eleven song recollection of his journey through a particular time of change and transition.
Early In The Morning was released throughout Ireland in March 2010 and was incredibly well received. Hailed as a 'striking and alluring affair… one we’ll be reckoning with for the best of 2010,' by the Irish Times, the album landed the #1 spot on iTunes in the country and enabled James to embark on his first proper Irish tour with a sold out show in Dublin. Offers from various labels to release the album in other countries began to filter in but when James heard Vagrant was interested he knew that was the perfect fit. “I’ve been a fan of the label since school, and getting to put out a record alongside bands like The Hold Steady, Edward Sharpe, and School Of Seven Bells is amazing.”
Early In The Morning will be made available across the nation on January 25, 2011.
